James Spires was born at Ashton-under-Hill, near Tewksbury, Gloucestershire, and attested for the 94th Foot at Wolverhampton on 20 November 1858. He volunteered for service with the 3rd Foot on 1st September 1867, and was discharged in February 1879 due to general debility ‘the result of long military service and exposure to an Indian climate for 10 years.’ Sold with copy discharge papers.
