Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Kandahar (Surg. G. E. E. Burroughs, 3rd Sind Horse) good very fine £300-400

Surgeon George Edward Elton Burroughs served with the 3rd Sind Horse throughout the first campaign of the Afghan War, being present at the action of Khushk-i-Nakhud. He officiated in medical charge of the 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry during its march from Disa to Kandahar, and then rejoining the 3rd Sind Horse, served with that regiment till the conclusion of the war, being present at the action of Girishk, during which he acted as Orderly Officer to Brigadier-General Nuttall, the battle of Maiwand, the defence of Kandahar, the sortie to Deh Khwaja, and the battle of Kandahar (Mentioned in despatches London Gazette 7 December 1879, thanked in orders, medal with clasp). He became Surgeon Major in March 1887, Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1895, retired shortly afterwards, and died in London on 1 October 1906.
