Lieutenant Charles Grant was attached to the 2nd Bengal European Fusiliers during the siege of Delhi. He was cashiered and dismissed the service by Court Martial on 27 December 1861. His brother, Donald Grant, was joint magistrate at Humeerpore and was massacred there on 18 June 1857.
