New Zealand 1845-1866, reverse undated (1826 Gunr. G. Williamson, R.A.) officially engraved naming, good very fine and rare £300-350

One of only three known medals to the Royal Artillery for the first campaign in New Zealand. WO/100/19 shows 2 officers and 29 men of 12 Company 6 Battalion as having served in New Zealand. Of these, six men died before the medal was issued. The roll shows Gunner George Williamson’s service in New Zealand as 1845-57. He was noted for meritorious conduct before the enemy on 6 July 1846, under the command of Major Last, 99th Regiment. Gunner Williamson deserted from New Zealand on 12 March 1849, but rejoined in February 1851 and was imprisoned for just over a year. Sold with full service details.
