Maharajpoor Star 1843 (Private James Tubb, H.M. 16th Lancers) fitted with adapted silver bar suspension, nearly extremely fine £280-320

James Tubb was born in Oxford and was a Printer by trade. He enlisted into the 16th Lancers on 16 October 1838, and arrived in India on 30 July 1839, eventually joining his regiment at Meerut on the 1st October following. He was present at the battle of Maharajpoor on 29 December 1843, at which the 16th Lancers distinguished themselves by a cavalry charge against the enemy’s position covered by heavy artillery fire.

Tubb also saw action in the 1st Sikh War and was present at the battles of Aliwal and Sobraon. However, he must have fallen ill shortly afterwards, ravaged by the effects of the climate, for he died on board the ship
Marion on 12 August 1846. Sold with further research.
