Military General Service 1793-1814, 5 clasps, Corunna, Salamanca, Vittoria, Nivelle, Nive (C. M. Seymour, Lieut. 59th Foot & Act. Asst. Comy. Genl.) very fine £700-900

Ex Tombs Collection 1918 and Leyland Robinson Collection. The medal rolls are in some confusion as to his clasp entitlement but the medal has alway carried these five clasps when sold. It would seem that he earned the last three clasps with the Commissariat Department.

Charles Marlborough Seymour was appointed Ensign on 11 August 1808, and Lieutenant on 29 June 1809. His services are described in Hart’s Army List for 1853 as follows: ‘Campaign of 1808-09 under Sir John Moore, including actions at Lugo, Benevente, and Corunna. Expedition to Walcheren, including siege and capture of Flushing (wounded). Subsequent campaigns in the Peninsula from November 1812 to the end of that war in 1814, including the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, covering siege of Badajoz, battle of Salamanca, capture of Madrid, siege of Burgos, battle of Vittoria, siege of San Sebastian, passage of the Bidassoa, the Nive, and the Adour, and investment of Bayonne. He has received the War Medal with five clasps.’ Lieutenant Seymour was placed on the half pay on 11 May 1815.
