Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed; British War and Victory Medals (Lieut.); Defence and War Medals, unnamed; Efficiency Decoration, G.V.R., India, reverse inscribed, ‘Lt. (Hony. Capt.) R. W. Godley, 2 Bn. B.B. & C.I. Ry. R. A.F.I.’, mounted as worn, good very fine (6) £800-900

M.C. London Gazette 26 July 1918. ‘T/Lt., R.E.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in maintaining the railway service for three days by his untiring efforts and example, throughout a period of great strain.’

Rowland William Godley received his commission in the Royal Engineers on 22 October 1914. He served in France and Turkey, 21 January 1916-11 November 1918. During the war he was twice wounded, promoted Temporary Lieutenant and awarded the Military Cross. After the war he became a Lieutenant in the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Regiment.
