Major Roy Victor Brandon served in a number of Gurkha regiments and battalions both during and after the Great War. Born in 1889 and a foundation scholar of St. Paul’s School, Hammersmith, he was commissioned in 1910 as a University Entrant. He was gazetted to the Unattached List of the Indian Army in 1911 and subsequently posted to the 18th Infantry. He was attached to the 2nd Battalion 2nd Goorkhas in France in 1915 and later the same year was sent with a draft of 100 picked men to reinforce 1st Battalion 4th Gurkha Rifles who were being sent from France to Gallipoli. He served in the Dardanelles and later in Egypt until 1916. In 1917, he took part in operations against the Mahsuds in Waziristan with the 1st Battalion 4th Gurkhas. He was subsequently posted to the 3rd Battalion 2nd Goorkhas in India, with whom he served until returning to the 1st Battalion 4th Gurkhas on the outbreak of the Third Afghan War. He represented the 1st Battalion 4th Gurkhas at the Peace Celebrations in London the same year. In 1921, he was attached to the 1st Battalion 50th Kumaon Rifles until he was posted to the 1st Battalion 9th Gurkha Rifles in 1923 with whom he served until his death in England whilst on leave in 1931 at the age of 41 years.
