The original grant of the squadron badge for ‘No. 278 Squadron’, hand-illuminated badge and motto, as painted by an artist of the College of Arms, dated September 1942, and signed by the Chester Herald and Inspector of Royal Air Force Badges, J. Heaton-Armstrong, and H.M. King George VI, in excellent condition £100-150

No. 278 Squadron was formed at Matlask in October 1941 for air-sea rescue operations off East Anglia. Re-equipped with Ansons in early 1943, it extended its sphere of operations to the north-east, and remained employed in a similar role until the War’s end, latterly with Walrus aircraft. No. 278 was disbanded in October 1945.
