The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, K.C.B. (Civil) Knight Commander’s embroidered breast star by D’Almaine & Co., the silver and gilt sequin and wire body embellished with red silk, circa 1847-50, 85mm diameter, the reverse with maker’s paper roundel ‘D’Almaine & Co., Embroiderers to Her Majesty, 38 Gerrard Street, Soho, London’, some loss of paper backing at extremities, otherwise good very fine and very scarce £300-350

The Civil division of the Order of the Bath was enlarged in 1847 to include Second and Third Classes of the Order, and provision was made for 50 K.C.B.’s and 200 C.B.’s. The first K.C.B.’s were issued with embroidered stars but official metal stars were introduced just a few years later.
