Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State (4975 Pte. G. Milsom, Glouc. Regt.) heavy edge bruising, nearly very fine £80-100

George Milsom was born in Bedminster, near Bristol. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, he attested for regular service with the Gloucestershire Regiment on 18 February 1897, aged 18 years, 6 months. Initially posted to the 2nd Battalion, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion in November 1898. He served in India, November 1898-September 1899, but being found absent without leave in April 1899, he was found guilty of desertion and sentenced to 56 days hard labour with all prior service forfeited. Milsom then served in South Africa, September 1899-August 1900; Ceylon, August 1900-January 1903, and India, January 1903-November 1909. Returning to England, Milsom was discharged, having completed his period of engagement, on 4 April 1910. With copied service papers and roll extract.
