Pair: Second Lieutenant Thomas Lyon, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, late Machine Gun Corps

Thomas Lyon was born in Eccleston in June 1894. He attested at the Prescott recruiting office on 3 August 1915 and was posted initially to the South Lancashire Regiment’s Training Reserve Battalion and thence to the Machine Gun Corps. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal in September 1915 and Corporal in July 1916. Posted to France on 13 March 1917, he served with 215 Company Machine Gun Corps. Lyon returned to the U.K. in February 1918 to train for a commission, and was posted to 17 Officer Cadet Battalion at Kinmel Park, near Abergele. He was granted a temporary commission in April 1920, backdated to 3 February 1919, gazetted to the North Lancashire Regiment. With copied research.
