Joseph Henry Lyon was born in Ancoats, Lancashire on 6 November 1889. A Railway Wagon Checker with the G.N.R. at Deansgate, he enlisted into the Army at Manchester. Serving with the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 18 October 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He was the son of Mrs Mary Allen Lyon, of 46 Ravald Street, Oldham Road, Manchester.
