Horton, Surrey Walking Club, in gold (8) and silver (7), gold with Swastika motif, awarded in the 1930s and 1940s; Brighton Time Trial, a gold award medal, named (E.C. The lot includes a group of photographs, mostly walking related, featuring S.E. Horton. The Surrey Walking Club was founded in 1899, and for nearly 40 years its badge was the swastika, always known as an ancient symbol of good fortune. With the rise of the Nazis this was changed, but it is still on a 1938 medal. Horton also won the Hammond trophy for ‘The first to reach the 100 Mile mark’ in a 100 miles or greater distance race, in 1947 and 1948
