Struck from the broken obverse die, through O of legend to edge, linked to the regular reverse. A similar variety of the medal was sold in Baldwin Auction 40, 25 September, 2006 (lot 1330). However, on the present specimen it is the obverse die that is damaged whilst the reverse die appears unmarked
