Swan, E.W., A collection of correspondence to him (83), comprising typed letters and invoices relating to tokens, tickets, medals and railwayana, from Spink & Son Ltd (1914-39), A.H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd and Glendining & Co (1931-48) and L.S. Forrer Ltd (1946-8) [Lot]. An interesting archive £30-40

Ernest W. Swan (†April 1948), of Pele Tower, Corbridge, and later Newbrough Park, Hexham, a member of the shipbuilding Swan family on Tyneside. The correspondence includes the original invoice for Swan’s purchase of the Dendy Marshall collection of railway medals from Baldwin in December 1945 for £200. After Swan’s death the collection was continued by his son David (†January 1984), but was ultimately auctioned by Glendining’s on 17 April 1986 (see previous lot)
