The Union Club, founded in 1799 and which survived into the second half of the 20th century, was the oldest private members’ club in London. It purchased the original York House, renamed Cumberland House in honour of the Duke of Cumberland, on the south side of Pall Mall, in 1801. The house was demolished 100 years ago and the RAC Club presently occupies the site
