Simmons February 1996)Black Horse, 58 Abbey street; Park Hotel, 36 Weld road, opened 1864; Bird in Hand, Bank street, proprietor Finley Frazer 1840-5, who also ran a reading society and dealt in curios, bankrupt September 1848; Hamilton’s Museum, Buckley Wells, proprietors the brothers George, Stephen and Hanson Hamilton, relocated to Whitehouse gardens, Blackford Bridge, in 1858, the elder brother George also being proprietor of the New Market Inn 1851-68; Plough Inn, Preston road, built 1785.
