Samuel Guppy (1755-1830), inventor and West Indies merchant, proprietor of the Patent Pure Copper Sheathing Nail Manufactory, 34 Queen square and Grove avenue, Bristol, and 22 Dowgate hill, London, fl. 1799-1820, †Chard 20 May 1830. His wife, Sarah Maria, née Beach (1770-1852) managed the Dowgate hill end of the business and lived next to the Brunels in Cheyne walk, Chelsea; their second son, Thomas Guppy (1797-1882) was Isambard K. Brunel’s partner in establishing the Great Western Railway Co and the Great Western Steamship Co
