Harthacnut (1035-1042), Penny, Jewel Cross type, Exeter, Eadmær, eadmær on exe·:, bust left, reads hardcnvt re, 0.78g/9h (SCBI Stockholm –; SCBI Copenhagen 720 [Winchester], same obv. die; Brettell –; Talvio L1A; cf. BEH 216 (Appendix); N 808; S 1166). Die-break on x of exe, otherwise about extremely fine and excessively rare £2,000-2,500

No left-facing Jewel Cross type of Harthacnut appears to be published for Eadmær at Exeter although there is a specimen of the right-facing variety in Stockholm (SCBI 40, 19). Extremely rare left-facing examples from Exeter are known by the moneyers Thegnwine and Wulfnoth (SCBI 40, 80-1; BEH 38, 40), die-linked to the Winchester moneyers Godwine Ceo and Æstann respectively (SCBI 40, 90 and SCBI 18, 724). The present specimen supplies a third die link between Eadmær at Exeter and Ælfwine at Winchester, at a time when the two mints were evidently working closely together
