Hibernian Bank, One Pound Token, uniface proof on card, engraved by Perkins & Heath. Spots of foxing and light stains and a small piece of tape on back, otherwise about extremely fine, scarce €1,200-1,500

The bank opened on 20 June 1825 and in its early years made several attempts to circumvent the Bank of Ireland monopoly on note issue within a 50 mile radius of Dublin. A note issue based on this example of a 'Token' and without any 'Promise to Pay' was put into circulation but quickly declared illegal and then withdrawn
