George Lee was born in Whitby, North Yorkshire on 6 May 1892. A Shipping Clerk by occupation, he entered the R.N.A.S. as a Petty Officer Mechanic on 3 March 1915 and in April was based on President II. He served with Armoured Car Division in France, April-December 1915. In August 1916 he was ranked as a Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class. He subsequently served at Daedalus (Eastchurch), Barrow-in-Furness and Pulham St. Mary. He was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant (Technical Officer) in the R.A.F. on 1 April 1918. Later in the month he was posted to Corfu Kite Balloon Station. In later life he was awarded a civil M.B.E. (not confirmed). Sold with copied service papers.
