Three: Private A. E. G. Ryder, Army Air Corps, a member of the 6th Airborne Division who was taken P.O.W. on D-Day

1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; War Medal 1939-45, and Airborne cap badge, good very fine (4) £200-250

Albert Edward George Ryder, a native of Crewe, served in the East Yorkshire Regiment prior to joining the Army Air Corps. Taken P.O.W. on D-Day, while serving in the 6th Airborne Division, he was incarcerated in Stalag VIIA at Moosburg until liberated in May 1945.

Sold with a small quantity of original documentation, including the recipient’s Discharge Certificate; an Army Record Office letter informing his mother that he was a P.O.W. in Stalag VIIIA, and another from the mother of a missing soldier, saying that she had heard Mrs. Ryder’s son mentioned in a German broadcast (’They read a letter out which was in English from Pte. A. Rider (sic), 14613260 ... ’); two letters sent by Mrs. Ryder to her son in captivity; and Army Form B.2089 Will, as completed by Private Ryder and removed from his Service & Pay Book, all documents worn and stained, the discharge certificate laid down on card.
