Philip Charles Smith was born in Southern Rhodesia in June 1923 and joined the Southern Rhodesian Reconnaissance Regiment in March 1944. Transferring to the Union Defence Force in January 1945, he was posted as a Trooper to the 6th Armoured Division’s Reserve Motorised Battalion in Italy in January 1944, but transferred to the Royal Durban Light Infantry in the following month. Having then served in that theatre of war until October 1945, he was demobilised back in Rhodesia in March 1946; sold with copied research.
