Four: Captain W. I. H. Marshall, Royal Army Service Corps, late Life Guards, died on 9 March 1943

William Ivan Henry Marshall was the son of Douglas and Elizabeth Marshall and husband of Annie Ella Elsie Marshall of Westminster London. Serving as a Captain in the Royal Army Service Corps, attached to the 15th Mule Corps and formerly of the Life Guards, he died/was killed in Burma on 9 March 1943, aged 31 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial. Captain Marshall is believed to have died whilst serving in the First Chindit Raid.

Sold with Army Council condolence slip named to ‘Captain W. I. H. Marshall’, and two ‘Certificates of Death’ stating, ‘Certified that having regard to such information as is available concerning Lieutenant (Temporary Captain) William Ivan Henry Marshall, Royal Army Service Corps, officially reported missing on the 9th day of March, 1943, it has been presumed by the War Office that Captain Marshall was killed in action in Burma on the 9th day of March, 1943’. Note: the C.W.G.C. website gives the date of death as 9 April 1943.
