Percy Harry Burt was born in Plymouth, Devon, on 10 April 1897. He was a pre-War territorial in the 6th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment and served in France from 22 March 1915. He was discharged to a commission in the Royal Flying Corps on 21 June 1917. Appointed Lieutenant, R.F.C. (Aeroplane and Seaplane Officer) on 1 April 1918, he transferred to the Stores Branch as Flying Officer. In July 1925 he was serving in the Stores Branch, No. 9 (Bombing) Squadron R.A.F. (Island Area, Kent). He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 1 November 1931, to Squadron Leader on 1 December 1937, and in January 1939 he was Officer Commanding Supplies Depot, R.A.F. Habbaniya, Iraq. He became Temporary Wing Commander on 1 January 1940 and retired on 19 June 1943.
