William Tansley was born in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. A Cycke Hand by occupation, he attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Nottingham on 17 January 1899, aged 18 years, 5 months. With the 3rd Battalion he served in South Africa, 2 September 1900-21 March 1903, gaining the above medals, and was then in Bermuda, 16 March 1904-24 October 1905. As a Lance-Corporal he was transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1907 and discharged on 16 January 1911. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
