George John William Burdall joined the 60th Royal Rifles in April 1879 and was posted to the 1st Battalion. In March 1881 Burdall was part of a draft of 1/60th men embarked on the S.S. Balmoral Castle despatched to South Africa to augment the 3rd Battalion which had suffered casualties in the First Boer War but arrived too late to participate in the conflict. In July 1881 the 60th King’s Royal Rifles were retitled the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. With the 3rd Battalion K.R.R.C. His next active service was in the Sudan, the 3rd Battalion K.R.R.C. disembarking at Trinkitat on 24 February 1884. He served there and at Suakin until September that year when he was posted to Cyprus, September 1884-May 1886, after which he was posted to Gibraltar. He was discharged in 1889 having attained the rank of Corporal. Sold with copied research including a casualty list of the K.R.R.C. in Egypt and Sudan.
