A fine Corporation of Glasgow Bravery Medal group of five awarded to Senior Superintendent Alexander Morrison, Glasgow Fire Brigade

Superintendent Alexander Morrison, Northern Division, Glasgow Fire Brigade, was awarded the Corporation of Glasgow Bravery Medal on 12 August 1930.

‘Superintendent Morrison ... who [with Constable Robert McKensie McFarlane and Fireman William Grant and John Edwards] displayed great bravery and devotion to duty in their attempt to rescue several persons from a burning house in a four-story tenement on Cowcaddens Street, on 25th February last’.

Alexander Morrison was born in Elgin on 19 January 1868. A Slater by occupation, he joined the Glasgow Fire Brigade on 5 October 1891 and was posted to the South Fire Station. In May the following year he was posted to the Central Fire Station. In January 1902 he received a monetary award for merit. On 11 April 1902 he posted to Springburn Fire Station as Station Officer and was posted to the Eastern Fire Station in June 1905. With them he won the Glasgow Rate and Salvage Challenge Cup for fire Drill in 1911. On 1 November 1916 he was promoted to Superintendent. Posted to the North Fire Station in March 1923, he was promoted to Senior Superintendent on 1 October 1927 and Third Officer on 1 July 1932. He retired from the service on 30 September 1932.
