Samuel Hodgkiss served as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Cambridge in the operations on and off the coast of Syria during 1840 and was awarded the Naval General Service Medal with clasp for ‘Syria’. The Long Service Medal to Able Seaman Samuel Hodgkiss, H.M.S. Malabar was approved on 29 May 1844.
