W. E. Spooner, 2nd Military District, Royal Australian Engineers, was awarded the Permanent Forces of the Empire Beyond the Seas L.S. & G.C. as a Corporal by the Commonwealth Gazette of 20 June 1914. As a Sergeant he was awarded the Commonwealth of Australia M.S.M. by the Commonwealth Gazette of 20 March 1919. Approximately 712 G.V.R. Commonwealth of Australia Permanent Forces of the Empire Beyond the Seas L.S. & G.C. and 465 Commonwealth of Australia Meritorious Service Medals gazetted.
