Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Modder River, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg (2804 Pte. W. Russell, A. & S. Highrs.) good very fine £160-200

William Russell was born in Falkirk, Scotland. A Moulder by occupation, he attested for the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at Stirling on 14 February 1888, aged 18 years, 7 months. With the 1st Battalion he served in Hong Kong, December 1889-January 1892, and with the 2nd Battalion he served in India, January 1892-November 1896, being transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1896. Recalled to the Colours in October 1899, he then served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa. Russell was wounded at Modder River on 28 November 1899. He was discharged having completed his period of engagement on 29 June 1901. Sold with copied service papers.
