Charles Gould was born in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Grenadier Guards at London on 13 July 1892, aged 20 years, 2 months. Having been discharged to the Reserve he was recalled to the Colours in February 1899 and served with the Grenadier Guards in South Africa, 9 August 1900-21 May 1902. With some copied research.
