John Schofield, a Cotton Spinner by occupation, attested for the 29th Regiment at Oldham, Lancashire, on 3 February 1841, aged 25 years, 6 months. Serving in the 1st Sikh War with the regiment, he was severely wounded at the battle of Ferozeshuhur, 21/22 December 1845, resulting in the amputation of his left arm. As a result of this he was discharged as being unfit for further service at Chatham on 8 December 1846. Sold with copied service papers.
