Military General Service 1793-1814, 5 clasps, Maida, Corunna, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Orthes (Robert Cotterill, 20th Foot) claw refitted, signs of having been case mounted, some edge bruising, very fine £1000-1200

Robert Cotterill was born in the Parish of Glossop, Derbyshire. He enlisted into the Army on 24 July 1799, aged 18 years. With the 20th Regiment he served in Minorca, Malta, Sicily, and thence to Italy where he served at the battle of Maida, 4 July 1806. He then served at the battle of Corunna, 16 January 1809, before returning to England. Posted back to the Peninsula in November 1912, he saw action at the battle of Vittoria, 21 June 1813, the battles of the Pyrenees, July-August 1813, and the battle of Orthes, 27 February 1814. In June 1814 he was posted from France to Ireland, based at Waterford, Templemore, Boyle and Dublin. He was discharged due to ill health at Fermoy on 27 October 1818, and received a pension. Cotterill died on 23 September 1847. Sold with copied discharge paper and other copied research.
