Alexander Baness Lumley Webb was appointed a Lieutenant in the Northern Bengal Mounted Rifles on 9 November 1881. He was promoted to Captain on 9 May 1891 and Honorary Major on 22 November 1895. He retired on 23 July 1897. Awarded the Volunteer Officers’ Decoration by General Order No. 344, of March 1896. In civil life he was employed as the Manager of Lloyd’s Bank at Darjeeling.
