Alfred Owen Tudor Webb was an Engineer, based before the war in Calcutta. A member of the Volunteers in India before the war, he entered the conflict as a Corporal in a Divisional Signalling Company. He was granted a commission as a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers on 8 May 1915 and was advanced to Temporary Lieutenant on 13 June 1916. In this rank he was mentioned in Haig’s despatches and awarded the Military Cross. Webb was appointed an Acting Captain on 7 May 1918, relinquishing this rank on 20 May 1919. He served in France and Flanders, 1 January-19 April 1915; in Gallipoli, 12 October-20 December 1915; in Egypt, 28 January-18 March 1916; with the Egypt Expeditionary Force, 19 March-3 June 1916, and again in France and Flanders, 13 June 1916 until the end of the war

After the war he returned to India, being based in Madras. Rejoining the A.F.I., he was appointed a Captain in the II (Madras) Brigade R.G.A. on 20 April 1921. The following year he was Captain of No. 5 (Madras) Field Company, R.E., and was later, Acting Major. After changes of title in 1925 and 1928 his unit became the No. 1 (Madras) Signal Company, A.F. Signal Corps. Captain Webb was awarded the Indian Volunteer Forces Officers’ Decoration, notified in the Gazette of India of 4 August 1928. Having been a local Major for some time, he was promoted to that rank on 2 May 1930 but resigned his commission on 28 May. Sold with copied research.
