Charles Lamont Reid joined the 61st Battalion, C.E.F., at Winnipeg, on 19 August 1915. He served on the Western Front, firstly with the 61st Battalion and later with the 44th. With the latter he won the Military Medal. After the War he was discharged as a Private in Winnipeg on 5 May 1919

Reid joined the Canadian Militia in Winnipeg on 27 May 1930, being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Motor Machine Gun Brigade. He retired in March 1932 but rejoined in October 1934. He was promoted to Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in May 1935. On 1 July 1935 he was appointed Adjutant of the 10th Divisional R.C.A.S.C. in Winnipeg. In December 1936 the unit became the 1st Cavalry Divisional R.C.A.S.C. Reid retired from the Militia on 2 October 1940 but on the very next day enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) in Winnipeg and served the war with the R.C.A.S.C. in Canada. He was discharged on 13 November 1945. Reid joined the Canadian Army (Reserve) in Winnipeg on 15 April 1951, again with the R.C.A.S.C. Ranked as a Captain, Reid was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (Canada) by C.A.O. Issue No. 438, of May 1955. Captain Reid, M.M., E.D., retired on 24 Oct 1958
