F. W. Vear joined the Territorial Army before the war, serving in the Royal Artillery. He was awarded the Efficiency Medal (Territorial) in 1946, this published in List No. 5 in A.O. 196 of December 1946. Vear later transferred to the Royal Engineers (Supplementary Reserve). As a Corporal he was awarded a clasp (not with lot) to his Efficiency Medal (Territorial), notified in List No. 24 of A.O. 51 of April 1954. As a Sergeant, Vear took part in the Suez operations during November/December 1956. On the reorganisation of the reserves, Vear served with the Army Emergency Reserve. As Warrant Officer Class 2 he was awarded the Efficiency Medal (A.E.R.), this published in List No. 59 with A.O. 42 of July 1963.
