Rooney joined the Militia before the War. He was awarded the Efficiency Medal (Militia), this notified in List No. 1 of A.O. 69 of April 1946. He was then No. 1459545 Gunner in the Royal Artillery (Heavy Anti-Aircraft). He then apparently joined the Territorial Army in a regiment of the Royal Artillery. His number became 21004000, and as a Gunner he was awarded the 1st clasp to his Efficiency Medal (Militia), this notified in List No. 21 of February 1953. He continued to serve and as a Bombardier he was awarded the 2nd clasp which was notified in List No. 107 of January 1976. By this time he had transferred to the Ulster Defence Regiment and was awarded the General Service Medal with clasp for Northern Ireland. Sold with some copied research.
