Frederick William Brind was born on 22 August 1877 and joined the Army in 1894. He served in the ranks of the Army for 19 years, 253 days. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in the rank of Quartermaster-Serjeant in the Coldstrem Guards, notified in Army Order 99 of April 1914. He was appointed Warrant Officer and Superintending Clerk on 2 May 1915 and held a Warrant rank for 4 years 347 days. Brind served throughout the Great War but did not go overseas. For his wartime services he was awarded the M.S.M. It is recorded on his card in the Army Medal Office that he applied for a replacement L.S. medal on 25 January 1928. Brind was granted a commission as Quartermaster with the rank of Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards on 13 April 1920 and was promoted to Captain on 13 April 1928. He was appointed an Officer of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire in the Birthday Honours of 3 June 1931.

Captain Brind was placed on Retired Pay on 1 October 1931. He died on 16 January 1956 at St. Alfeyes Hospital, Greenwich, London, aged 78. Prior to his death he had been living at 25 Bennett Park, Blackheath.
