Co Waterford, Lismore, Lismore College, Duke of Devonshire Literary Prize, a copper award by G. Mills, distant view of Lismore Castle and bridge over the river Blackwater, figures on river-bank in foreground, rev. legend, un-named, 53mm (Grimshaw 127; D & W 239/281). Traces of old lacquer on obverse and two minor reverse edge nicks, otherwise good very fine, rare (£60-80)

Lismore Castle, erected in the late 12th century, was acquired by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1589 and sold to Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork, in 1602. On the death of the 4th Earl in 1753 without a male heir, the castle passed to his eldest daughter, Lady Charlotte, wife of the 4th Duke of Devonshire; the Devonshire family still own the castle today
