Co Dublin, Dublin, Jonathan Swift, 1738, a cast silver medal by J. Roche, bust almost facing in central medallion, attended by Hibernia, History and two other winged figures, rev. Hibernia seated left, ships at left, pastoral landscape at right, stippled fields both sides, 38mm, 14.25g (MI II, 525/86; E 544; Frazer p.313). Good very fine and toned, very rare (£300-400)

Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), Anglo-Irish cleric, Dean of St Patrick’s, Dublin, 1713-42, satirist and author of Gulliver’s Travels
