Scotland, Attempted Invasion of Scotland, 1708, a silver medal by M. Brunner, laureate bust of Anne left, initials gfn below, rev. ass preparing to feed on a thistle being driven away by a robed female holding an English rose, edge plain, 43mm (Woolf 21:3 var; MI II, 321/146 var; BDM IV, 292). Light scuffing and an obverse rim nick, otherwise about very fine, toned, very rare (£250-350)

The initials gfn are those of Georg Friedrich Nürnberger, mint-master at Nuremberg from 1677 to 1716. They appear on several medals by Martin Brunner and this fact was noted by Forrer in 1909, but the existence of them on any Attempted Invasion of Scotland medals appears to have escaped the notice of the late Noel Woolf
