Norman Rupert Barrett, CBE, FRCS (1903-79), Richmond, Surrey; b. Adelaide; educ. Eton 1917-22, and Trinity College, Cambridge; senior surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital and Brompton Hospital; surgeon to King Edward VII Sanatorium, Midhurst, 1938-70; consulting thoracic surgeon to RN, 1944-70; lecturer in surgery to the University of London, 1935-70. Nicholas Llewelyn-Davies, at Eton 1916-22 and a member of the Eton Society; he was Keeper of Fives 1921-2, in the Field XI, 1921 and the Eton XI, 1922. After Eton he went up to New College, Oxford and subsequently became a partner in Jessel Toynbee & Co, bill-brokers, living in London
