19th Century, William Abbot, 1823, a gilt-bronze award medal, unsigned, bust left in high-collared dress-coat, rev. wreath, un-named, 53mm (BHM 1206; Svarstad –). Some light surface marks, particularly on reverse, otherwise extremely fine and brilliant, scarce (£60-80)

Obverse only illustrated. William Abbot (1789-1843), actor and dramatist, was born in Chelsea. He made his first appearance at Bath Theatre in 1806 and debuted on the London stage two years later. His acting career petered out in the early 1830s and he died in reduced circumstances in Baltimore, Maryland
