Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse inscribed, ‘Capt. F. S. Marr, R.F.A., 18.6.17’; 1914-15 Star (2 Lieut., R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Capt.) mounted court style for wear, very fine (4) £800-900

M.C. London Gazette 18 June 1917. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has repeatedly done good and valuable work in going forward in front of the firing line and obtaining most valuable information. On a later occasion he led his battery to its forward position through an intense barrage and it was largely due to his fine example and cool judgement that the battery reached its position with only a few casualties’.

Frederick Sidney Marr was born on 15 May 1891. Living in Plumstead, he attested for the 8th London Brigade R.F.A. on 9 September 1914 and was discharged to a commission on 26 December 1914. As a 2nd Lieutenant with the 47th Brigade R.F.A. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 22 May 1915. He was slightly wounded on 12 August 1916 and killed in action on 30 August 1917, being buried in the Reninghelst New Military Cemetery, Belgium.
