A fine quality silver-mounted full dress dirk for an officer of the 93rd Highlanders, the 31cm blade by Buckmaster, 3 New Burlington Street, London, notched along the back edge, etched with crowned VR cypher, thistles and within a wreath 93 and Cape of Good Hope, the black wood hilt carved overall with strapwork and pinned with silver studs, the pommel set with a facetted cairngorm within a silver band deeply chased with thistles, complete with its black leather covered scabbard, the whole mounted en-suite with silver mounts applied with chased thistles, the locket applied with regimental device of 93 within thistle wreath, complete with its silver-mounted companion knife & fork within scabbard pockets, again set with cairngorms, blade retaining almost all original finish, and mounts in good condition overall £1200-1500

There is a fine portrait of Surgeon-General Munro in the regimental museum at Stirling Castle, in which he is depicted wearing this dirk.
