all officially inscribed ‘VX. 27167 A. E. Simpson’, extremely fine (5) £200-250

Albert Edward Simpson was born in Seymour, Victoria in September 1900 and enlisted in the Australian Army at Caulfield in June 1940. Posted as a Sapper to 2/10 Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, a unit of the 8th Division, A.I.F., the Company was deployed in the defence of Malaya, Simpson and many of his comrades being taken P.O.W. - and incarcerated in Changi. He was among those liberated at the War’s end and was discharged in December 1945.
