Having enlisted in the Southern Rhodesia Forces in August 1940, Southwick was embarked for the Middle East in June 1941, where he was attached to the Royal Corps of Signals and fought with the 8th Army. Transferring to the Union Defence Forces in September 1943, he remained similary employed in Italy and was demobilised back in Southern Rhodesia in November 1945; sold with copied service record which confirms his entitlement to the above described awards.
